Gynecology – Surgery

Soft-Tissue Surgery in Gynecology

Condyloma / Uterine Fibroid / Enucleation of Myoma

  • In Gynecology a dual-wavelength diode laser with 980nm and 1470nm is used to resect fibroids, myoma and other tissues. The wavelength combination allows the surgeon to coagulate or cut the tissue as needed with minimal bleeding, fast hemostasis and a clear view of the tissue.
  • The laser can be used within minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures as the fibers can be introduced through the thin working channels of a gynecological endoscope or hysteroscope.

Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS)

  • Fetoscopic laser surgery is performed to treat Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a condition that affects identical twins sharing a placenta and blood vessels, leading to unequal blood flow between them.
  • Technique: First, a thin and flexible fetoscope is inserted into the uterus through a small incision. This allows the surgeon to identify the placental blood vessels that are shared by the twins.
  • Second, the surgeon uses a diode laser to selectively coagulate and seal off abnormal blood vessels connecting the twins’ circulations. This will correct the imbalance in the twins blood flow.
  • This laser-assisted minimally invasive procedure reduces the risk to both the mother and the fetuses compared to more invasive surgical options. It has shown to improve the chances of survival and reduces complications for both twins.
