Short Wave Infra-Red (SWIR) Imaging

Deep-Tissue SWIR Imaging with NIR-Excited Contrast Agents

  • In small animal imaging (e.g. mice), multi-wavelength near-infrared (NIR) diode lasers combined with contrast agents that absorb in the NIR spectrum and emit in the shortwave infrared (SWIR) range (900-1700 nm) offer valuable benefits for in vivo visualization.
  • SWIR fluorescence enables deeper tissue penetration. The reduced scattering effect leads to sharper, more distinct images compared to visible or traditional NIR wavelengths.
  • SWIR-compatible contrast agents, which selectively adhere to targeted tissues or markers, further improve the clarity of visualized regions.
  • Reduced interference from autofluorescence results in high-resolution images of deep-tissue structures and in monitoring dynamic biological processes in live animals.
