Laser Chip Fab

Lumics since >25 years is successfully designing and manufacturing semiconductor laser chips in-house. Our fully owned modern chip fab in Berlin (Germany) consists of highly-controlled class ISO 5 cleanrooms, and for the most critical processes even of class ISO 4.

Our extensive in-house expertise starts with our own proprietary epitaxial design for our wafers and consecutively spans all the processes for wafer processing including our unique patented facet passivation process, up to fabricating and testing the final laser chips.

Rigorous quality control and environmental tests ensure the high reliability and performance of our laser chips, before they get packaged and mounted into our various enclosures of our product portfolio.

Lumics is one of very few companies worldwide handling all three semiconductor materials GaAs, InP, and GaSb.

Having our own chip fab in-house brings us an invaluable advantage with regard to speed, flexibility, and full supply + cost control over the the entire semiconductor process chain.
